[:de]Ein Film von  Jonas Carpignano.

Der 14-jäh­ri­ge Pio lebt in einer Roma-Familiengemeinschaft, die in der süd­ita­lie­ni­schen Stadt Gioia Tauro meh­re­re Wohnblocks bewohnt. In der Hafenstadt gibt es kaum Perspektiven, Zusammenhalt nur inner­halb der eige­nen Community, not­falls auch gegen ande­re Ausgegrenzte wie die afri­ka­ni­schen Flüchtlinge, deren Lebensverhältnisse noch schlech­ter sind. Als sein Bruder und sein Vater ver­haf­tet wer­den, fühlt sich Pio ver­pflich­tet, für die Mutter und die jün­ge­ren Geschwister Geld zu ver­die­nen und er fängt des­halb an, klei­ne­re und grö­ße­re Verbrechen zu begehen.

Bereits in „Mediterranea“, dem Spielfilmdebüt von Jonas Carpignano, spielt Pio eine klei­ne­re Nebenrolle. Jetzt dreht sich der gan­ze Film um ihn, die Rolle sei­nes bes­ten Freundes ist mit Koudous Seihon besetzt, dem Hauptdarsteller aus „Mediterranea“. Beide Laiendarsteller wis­sen, was sie spie­len, denn sie brin­gen ihre eige­nen Lebenserfahrungen in die Filme Carpignanos mit ein.

Executive pro­du­cer Martin Scorsese’s name should help the film secu­re dis­tri­bu­ti­on. Pio was 14 when the film was made, on the pre­cipi­ce of pre­ma­tu­re adult­hood.
