Collective Threads, Collective Rights

The film showcases the complex identities of garment workers operating within Sri Lanka’s apparel sector. These workers provide insights into how they (partially) overcome the challenges of migrating from the village to the city to work and live near global garment factories. In doing so, the film requires viewers to reflect on their own privileges, and presents different approaches to transnational solidarity through a variety of visual inserts.

The event is split into two parts:

1) The premiere will take place on Saturday 17.06.2023 at 14:00 at the FSK-Kino Segitzdamm 2, 10969 Berlin. The duration of the documentary is 90 minutes and will be shown in the original language with English subtitles.

2) After the premiere, we ask you to join us for Tamil snacks and drinks, discuss issues raised in the film and identify potentially-tailored solutions to a nexus and linked approach to overcoming current challenges in the industry. We will also examine the position paper detailing current structures and constraints of the apparel industry on site. The official part will last until 19.30.
