Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat

Sorry, this entry is only available in Deutsch.

Ein Film von Johan Grimonprez.

[Credits] [Tickets] [Trailer]

A film by Assaf Lapid. In English, Hebrew, Yiddish and Dutch with German subtitles.

    [Credits] [Tickets & Termine] [Trailer]

A few months after his release from Auschwitz and still in his striped jacket, Yechiel De-Nur sat down and started writing. After two weeks, he was reborn as Ka-Tzetnik, or “the man from the camps.” While the books that he wrote were translated into 32 languages and sold millions, the author himself hid behind the pseudonym. It wasn’t until the trial of Adolf Eichmann in 1961 that his true identity was revealed during his revelatory testimony where he described Auschwitz as “the other planet:” a place outside of human judgment. Years later, undergoing an experimental LSD treatment for trauma, he revisits his experience, imagining himself as an SS officer, and that changes everything. In this affecting documentary, the life of the mysterious and elusive author and his views on human behavior are examined in depth.

Köln 75 tells the true story behind one of the best-selling jazz records of all time, Keith Jarrett’s “Köln Concert” from 1975. The event almost failed to happen – before a formidable German teenager, the 18-year-old Vera Brandes, pulls out all the stops and arranges the conditions for the creation of a masterpiece. Vera, who is still at school when she starts producing and promoting concerts in Cologne, puts everything on the line to stage this show. It looks like all the odds are against her, but Vera believes in the power of music and has never seen anyone play in the way that Keith Jarrett plays.

  • Das melancholische Mädchen

    Das melancholische Mädchen

A film by Susanne Heinrich. In German with English subtitles. A screening in colaboration with the 35k filmclub.

    [Credits] [Termine] [Trailer]

A girl roams through the city looking for a place to sleep. Along the way she meets young mothers who celebrate motherhood religiously, goes home with an abstinent existentialist for whom sex is “just another market,” and waits for the end of capitalism in a drag bar. Her attempt to write a book doesn’t make it beyond the first sentence of the second chapter, and she finds no space between art galleries, yoga studios and the beds of strangers. Instead of trying to fit in, she starts regarding her depression as a political issue. Through 15 of the girl’s humorous encounters, Aren’t You Happy? explores our post-modern society between precarity and self-marketing, serial monogamy and neo-spirituality, disillusionment and the pressure to be happy. Susanne Heinrich’s debut film brings together pop and theory, feminism and humour, and gives you tons of quotes you’ll want to see on advertising billboards in neon letters.
