Sisters July and September are very close, but very different: September is protective and distrustful; July, open and curious. An incident in school forces them to flee to an old holiday home with their mum, where a series of surreal events cause their bond to shift in ways July cannot comprehend.

The documentary film premieres that have been presented at the Arsenal at Potsdamer Platz in loose succession for the past ten years will be continued as part of Arsenal on Location at and with the fsk Kino at Oranienplatz—an obvious collaboration, as contemporary documentary filmmaking also has a permanent place in the fsk’s program. The series begins in March with Ulrike Pfeiffer’s film DIEFABELHAFTEWELTDESDR. CADÉOT (D 2024), which portrays an old vet from Gascony and depicts a microcosm that has fallen out of time. (Birgit Kohler)
Dr. Cadéot is over 90 years old and still works as a vet in the country. He lives in the Gascogne region of southwest France with his brother and sister-in-law, a goose called Lily and a small flock of sheep. The mischievous, dishevelled old man treats animals on a wooden table covered in a wipe-clean tablecloth. Relics from a long life can be found all over the house, the telephone hangs on the wall, and paper is stacked up in piles. Ulrike Pfeiffer’s DIEFABELHAFTEWELTDESDR. CADÉOTportrays a microcosm that seems to stem from a different era. The camera shows the sunlight streaming in, wind and weather, day and night, different seasons, it glides along old wallpaper and over the surfaces of the floor and walls. A narrator counts the sheep or says sentences such as “It’s about to rain.” The music composed by Helge Schneider places its own emphasis – as do the quotes from several 400-year-old animal fables by Jean de La Fontaine. Köln 75 tells the true story behind one of the best-selling jazz records of all time, Keith Jarrett’s “Köln Concert” from 1975. Vera, who is still at school when she starts producing and promoting concerts in Cologne, puts everything on the line to stage this show. It looks like all the odds are against her, but Vera believes in the power of music and has never seen anyone play in the way that Keith Jarrett plays.
