The documentary film premieres that have been presented in succession over the past ten years at the Arsenal at Potsdamer Platz will now continue as part of Arsenal on Location in and with the fsk cinema at Oranienplatz – an obvious collaboration, as contemporary documentary filmmaking also holds a regular place in the program there. The series will continue in May with HINTERDENFARBEN (G 2024) by Julia Groteclaes. In a pared-down studio setting – a chair in front of a neutral black background – eight people take turns in reading out an account of an extreme experience in the first person from a piece of paper: after suffering a fall while canyoning, 25-year-old Micha was trapped for days in the hollow behind a waterfall, invisible to the outside world. The protagonists play his role in proxy with the filmmaker as a interlocutor, also commenting on Micha’s story and incorporating their feelings and own experiences into the process. (Birgit Kohler)

Und sie sind Prototypen dessen, was man gemeinhin als „frühreif“ bezeichnet – sie sind umfassend aufgeklärt und machen sich tiefgreifende Gedanken über Partnerschaft und Lebensgestaltung, sehnen aber immer noch ihre erste Periode herbei, die sie endlich zu Erwachsenen machen soll. Zwischen Spielplatz, Schule und sozialen Medien beobachten wir über viele Monate hinweg, wie der Übergang von der Kindheit ins Erwachsenenleben tatsächlich Fahrt aufnimmt und überraschend unterschiedliche Entwicklungen in Gang bringt. Denn der Blick auf sich selbst und die Umgebung verändert sich bei den beiden Mädchen nicht so gleichartig, wie es die anfängliche Harmonie vermuten lässt. Wie zwei Prototypen spiegeln die Charaktere mögliche Wege, die man in diesem Alter einschlagen kann – von früher Karriereplanung und bewusster Arbeit am eigenen Erscheinungsbild über resignierte Gleichgültigkeit bis zu Essstörungen und psychischen Problemen. In vielen kleinen, auf den ersten Blick unspektakulären Szenen mit viel Wortanteil, unterbrochen von kurzen Animationen, zeigt die Regisseurin, wie die Sehnsucht nach dem Erwachsensein langsam der pubertären Desillusionierung und Ratlosigkeit weicht.
