Set in 1770s Vienna, LICHT<\/span> fol\u00adlows an aspi\u00adring young harp\u00ads\u00adichor\u00addist who\u00adse magi\u00adcal play\u00ading has alre\u00ada\u00addy gai\u00adned noti\u00adce among high socie\u00adty. A fly in the oint\u00adment: the pro\u00addi\u00adgy is a woman, and blind. Maria Theresia von Paradis plays by ear and instinct, with heigh\u00adten\u00aded sen\u00adses, yet her atten\u00adti\u00adve mother and father want not\u00adhing more than to res\u00adto\u00adre her sight, by wha\u00adte\u00adver means pos\u00adsi\u00adble. Maria Theresia and her par\u00adents are soon at the door\u00adstep of a phy\u00adsi\u00adci\u00adan who is just begin\u00adning to estab\u00adlish a repu\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon in vien\u00adnese socie\u00adty: Dr. Mesmer. LICHT<\/span> revol\u00adves around this doc\u00adtor-pati\u00adent rela\u00adti\u00adonship, allo\u00adwing Albert to del\u00adve into a series of the\u00admes: gen\u00adder dyna\u00admics; sci\u00adence ver\u00adsus art; age and youth. Mesmer was per\u00adcei\u00adved by the non-aco\u00adlytes as a bit of a quack, but under his gent\u00adle care, Theresia makes see\u00admingly mira\u00adcu\u00adlous pro\u00adgress. Meanwhile socie\u00adty grows sus\u00adpi\u00adcious, her play\u00ading style is affec\u00adted, and Theresia\u2019s once-sup\u00adport\u00adi\u00adve fami\u00adly beg\u00adins to doubt Mesmer.
