Eastern Cape, South Africa. A lonely fac\u00adto\u00adry worker, Xolani, takes time off his job to assist during an annu\u00adal Xhosa cir\u00adcumcis\u00adi\u00adon initia\u00adti\u00adon into man\u00adhood. In a remo\u00adte moun\u00adtain camp that is off limits to women, young men, pain\u00adted in white och\u00adre, recup\u00ader\u00ada\u00adte as they learn the mas\u00adcu\u00adli\u00adne codes of their cul\u00adtu\u00adre. In this envi\u00adron\u00adment of machis\u00admo and aggres\u00adsi\u00adon, Xolani cares for a defi\u00adant initia\u00adte from Johannesburg, Kwanda, who quick\u00adly lear\u00adns Xolani\u2019s best kept secret, that he is in love with ano\u00adther man. Having first explo\u00adred male cir\u00adcumcis\u00adi\u00adon in his short film Ibhokhwe<\/em>, South African direc\u00adtor John Trengove revi\u00adsits this topic and other ritu\u00adals of mas\u00adcu\u00adli\u00adni\u00adty in his first fea\u00adture.
