Toma and Ana meet at uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty. A love affair beg\u00adins that is full of hopes and dreams and suf\u00adfu\u00adsed by the fee\u00adling that each needs the other in equal mea\u00adsu\u00adre. Ana has a com\u00adpli\u00adca\u00adted fami\u00adly back\u00adground and suf\u00adfers from seve\u00adre panic attacks. Middle-class Toma is as sho\u00adcked as he is fasci\u00adna\u00adted by the deep well of des\u00adpair he encoun\u00adters in his bel\u00adoved. Toma gives Ana his com\u00adple\u00adte sup\u00adport and takes her to see a string of doc\u00adtors. At the same time the two begin to iso\u00adla\u00adte them\u00adsel\u00adves from their fami\u00adlies and fri\u00adends. Ana\u2019s weak\u00adne\u00adss appears to make Toma stron\u00adger. When she falls pregnant, Ana embarks on a the\u00adra\u00adpy based on ana\u00adly\u00adti\u00adcal psy\u00adcho\u00adana\u00adly\u00adsis from which she emer\u00adges a stron\u00adger per\u00adson. But then Toma\u2019s world beg\u00adins to topp\u00adle \u2026 C\u0103lin Peter Netzer\u2019s film blends roman\u00adtic dra\u00adma with a stu\u00addy of men\u00adtal ill\u00adness and how it is over\u00adco\u00adme. Unfolding like a com\u00adplex puz\u00adzle struc\u00adtu\u00adred around Toma\u2019s psy\u00adcho\u00adana\u00adly\u00adti\u00adcal ses\u00adsi\u00adons, the nar\u00adra\u00adti\u00adve plun\u00adges into the past in a series of sus\u00adtained flash\u00adbacks. Scenes from a com\u00adplex mar\u00adria\u00adge that reve\u00adal num\u00ade\u00adrous con\u00adnec\u00adtions to the repres\u00adsed depths and taboos of Romanian society.<\/p>\n
