Mike Mills 20TH<\/span> CENTURY<\/span> WOMEN<\/span> is a warm-hear\u00adted trip to late 70s sun\u00adny California. The film has a whiff of wistful\u00adness , per\u00adhaps becau\u00adse Mills made the film as a homage to the bel\u00adoved, uncon\u00adven\u00adtio\u00adnal women in his life, or may\u00adbe becau\u00adse the 70s was a time when peo\u00adp\u00adle real\u00adly attempt\u00aded to crea\u00adte indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal life plans. The lumi\u00adnous cen\u00adter of the film is Annette Bening, who plays sin\u00adgle mom Dorothea Fields with a lot of charm and ver\u00adve. Growing up in the 30s, Dorothea had her son late, when she was over 40, and she cares for him in a libe\u00adral way. In flash\u00adbacks we see the crea\u00adti\u00adve excu\u00adse let\u00adters that she wri\u00adtes for her son Jamie for school. She lives with Jamie, play\u00aded by Lucas Jade Zumann as a very lova\u00adble and someone intro\u00adver\u00adted teen\u00adager, and her ten\u00adant Abbie, a depres\u00adsed punk pho\u00adto\u00adgrapher play\u00aded by Greta Gerwig, in a shab\u00adby gem of a house. Other qua\u00adsi room\u00adma\u00adtes are car\u00adpen\u00adter William (Billy Crudup), a sexy hip\u00adpie who helps with the reno\u00advat\u00ading, and neigh\u00adbor girl Julie (Elle Fanning), Jamie\u2019s best fri\u00adend \u2013 a sta\u00adtus that\u2019s hard for Jamie to swallow.<\/p>\n

In the begin\u00adning of the film Dorothea deci\u00addes that Jamie needs other attach\u00adment figu\u00adres along with her so he can suc\u00adcessful\u00adly go through puber\u00adty and asks Abbie for help. She takes the boy to con\u00adcerts and gives him femi\u00adnist books. 20TH<\/span> CENTURY<\/span> WOMEN<\/span> shows the coll\u00adec\u00adti\u00adve attempt to mas\u00adter Jamie\u2019s puber\u00adty in a time of poli\u00adti\u00adcal uphe\u00adaval in a fun\u00adny, nost\u00adal\u00adgic, and lova\u00adble way. Mills has a good a grasp on the various gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adons as well as on the slight\u00adly over\u00adwhel\u00admed 20th cen\u00adtu\u00adry boy in the midd\u00adle.   (Hendrike Bake)<\/p>\n
