Many of the hig\u00adhest pro\u00adfi\u00adle direc\u00adtors Japan has to offer today made their debut fea\u00adtures in this for\u00admat \u2013 very few of them have ever been shown inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal\u00adly. The series was joint\u00adly cura\u00adted by Keiko Araki (<span class=\"caps\">PIA<\/span> Tokyo), Jacob Wong (Hong Kong Film Festival) and Christoph Terhechte (Berlinale <i>Forum<\/i>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clearfix module textImage imgFlowRight \">\n<div class=\"dl\">\n<div class=\"dt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.berlinale.de\/media\/filmstills\/2016_2\/forum_15\/201603739_1_IMG_367xVAR.jpg\" alt width=\"367\" height=\"274\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"dd\"><i>I Am Sion Sono!!<\/i> by Sion Sono, Japan&nbsp;1984<\/div>\n<div class=\"dd\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"text\">\n<p>The series includes Sion Sono\u2019s <i>I am Sion Sono!!<\/i>, in which the then 22-year-old intro\u00addu\u00adced hims\u00adelf to audi\u00aden\u00adces as a punk poet in non\u00adcha\u00adlant, self-con\u00adfi\u00addent style, and Shinya Tsukamoto\u2019s <i>The Adventure of Denchu-Kozo<\/i>, a huge\u00adly crea\u00adti\u00adve, wild cyber\u00adpunk dra\u00adma, whilst also taking in the lar\u00adge\u00adly unknown ear\u00adly works of direc\u00adtors such as Sogo Ishii (today Gakuryu Ishii), Masashi Yamamoto, Nobuhiro Suwa and Shinobu Yaguchi.<\/p>\n<p>In Yamamoto\u2019s anar\u00adchic fea\u00adture debut <i>Saint Terrorism<\/i>, a girl in a pink and yel\u00adlow out\u00adfit shoots inno\u00adcent peo\u00adp\u00adle at see\u00adming ran\u00addom with a gun con\u00adcea\u00adled in her white hand\u00adbag, with the bodies being car\u00adri\u00aded off by the uni\u00adform-wea\u00adring mem\u00adbers of a cult. Yaguchi\u2019s won\u00adderful\u00adly melan\u00adcho\u00adly <i>The Rain Women<\/i> has two women ride their bikes through a con\u00adve\u00adni\u00adence store, wear out count\u00adless umbrel\u00adlas whilst wan\u00adde\u00adring through the sog\u00adgy land\u00adscape and warb\u00adle \u201cSinging in the Rain\u201d dres\u00adsed as a J\u2011Pop duo.
