\u201c<\/span>It\u2019s not about giving life more days, it\u2019s about giving days more life\u201d is one of the ide\u00adas for\u00admu\u00adla\u00adted by Cicely Saunders, the foun\u00adder of pal\u00adlia\u00adti\u00adve care. It fli\u00adckers up during a pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon in Philipp D\u00f6ring\u2019s four-hour insti\u00adtu\u00adtio\u00adnal obser\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon while a carer ins\u00adtructs a new staff mem\u00adber. They are at the Franziskus hos\u00adpi\u00adtal in Berlin. D\u00f6ring docu\u00adments a few months here bet\u00adween the start of the year and sum\u00admer, accom\u00adpany\u00ading doc\u00adtors on their rounds and in con\u00adsul\u00adta\u00adti\u00adons with rela\u00adti\u00adves and lis\u00adtening in on the team\u2019s inter\u00adnal exch\u00adan\u00adges, which don\u2019t shy away from men\u00adtio\u00adning short\u00adco\u00admings. A safe space is crea\u00adted that fol\u00adlows its own rules, in which dia\u00adlo\u00adgues about life paths are taken up and reflec\u00adted upon, pro\u00adgress is cele\u00adbra\u00adted and approa\u00adching fare\u00adwells ent\u00adrus\u00adted to the neces\u00adsa\u00adry peo\u00adp\u00adle. Palliativstation is thus also a film about lan\u00adguage, which shifts bet\u00adween medi\u00adcal jar\u00adgon and dif\u00adfe\u00adrent dialects and is some\u00adti\u00admes only able to be pro\u00addu\u00adced with tech\u00adni\u00adcal help. D\u00f6ring gets very clo\u00adse to death, but with it also to life. His film is weigh\u00adty, impres\u00adsi\u00adve and yet never beco\u00admes crus\u00adhing under the bur\u00adden of fate. One thing quick\u00adly beco\u00admes clear: life only ends with the final heartbeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
