Slowly, 12-year-old Anna and her deaf mum are start\u00ading to feel a bit cram\u00adped in their flat. It\u2019s not just the lack of pri\u00adva\u00adcy that\u2019s caus\u00ading fric\u00adtion \u2013 Anna has just star\u00adted secon\u00adda\u00adry school and quick\u00adly rea\u00adli\u00adses what\u2019s important now: brand-name clo\u00adthes and a sen\u00adse of belon\u00adging. She quick\u00adly gets hold of a fake Ralph Lauren jum\u00adper, but money\u2019s still tight. In her debut, direc\u00adtor and aut\u00adhor Marie Luise Lehner stages a con\u00adfron\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon with clas\u00adsist struc\u00adtures, which Anna tack\u00adles with a mix\u00adtu\u00adre of shame and grit. She finds an ally in Mara, who chal\u00adlenges others with femi\u00adnist issues and who also lives alo\u00adne with her que\u00ader father. Lehner stands by her heroes uncon\u00addi\u00adtio\u00adnal\u00adly, giving them space for intro\u00ads\u00adpec\u00adtion and out\u00adbursts, allo\u00adwing them to row back and recon\u00adci\u00adle. Not fit\u00adting in allows them to get to know and app\u00adre\u00adcia\u00adte who they are. Lehner flies the flag of soli\u00adda\u00adri\u00adty, quite natu\u00adral\u00adly and with ple\u00adnty of refe\u00adren\u00adces to pop cul\u00adtu\u00adre.
