The film tells the sto\u00adry of the 2020 racist attack in the city of Hanau in the German sta\u00adte of Hesse from the per\u00adspec\u00adti\u00adve of the bere\u00ada\u00adved rela\u00adti\u00adves and the sur\u00advi\u00advors. Within the space of just a few minu\u00adtes, the per\u00adpe\u00adtra\u00adtor shot nine young peo\u00adp\u00adle dead becau\u00adse he did not con\u00adsider them to be German. What are the direct and long-term con\u00adse\u00adquen\u00adces of such an attack on peo\u00adp\u00adle and their city? Director Marcin Wierzchowski accom\u00adpa\u00adnied the prot\u00adago\u00adnists for four years as they faced their grief and stri\u00adved to come to terms with the loss of a loved one. But the film also reve\u00adals their strugg\u00adle for reco\u00adgni\u00adti\u00adon and a sen\u00adse of belon\u00adging in the coun\u00adtry they call home. The rela\u00adti\u00adves feel aban\u00addo\u00adned by the aut\u00adho\u00adri\u00adties and poli\u00adti\u00adci\u00adans ali\u00adke becau\u00adse, despi\u00adte many words of sym\u00adpa\u00adthy, they them\u00adsel\u00adves are left to unco\u00adver the cir\u00adcum\u00ads\u00adtances of the crime. In the pro\u00adcess, they encoun\u00adter the cold bureau\u00adcra\u00adcy of a sys\u00adtem that is woeful\u00adly unpre\u00adpared for such an attack \u2013 even though right-wing ter\u00adror is a tra\u00adgi\u00adcal\u00adly com\u00admon\u00adplace part of German history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
