La Haine<\/em> opens with a mon\u00adta\u00adge of news foo\u00adta\u00adge depic\u00adting urban riots in a ban\u00adlieue<\/a><\/em> in the com\u00admu\u00adne of Chanteloup-les-Vignes<\/a> near Paris. In the after\u00admath of the riots, a local man named Abdel Ichaha is gra\u00adve\u00adly inju\u00adred in poli\u00adce cus\u00adt\u00adody and is in inten\u00adsi\u00adve care. The riots esca\u00adla\u00adte, lea\u00adding to a sie\u00adge of the local poli\u00adce sta\u00adti\u00adon and the loss of a poli\u00adce offi\u00adce\u00adr\u2019s revol\u00adver. The film fol\u00adlows the lives of three fri\u00adends of Abdel, who are all young men from immi\u00adgrant fami\u00adlies, over appro\u00adxi\u00adm\u00adate\u00adly twen\u00adty con\u00adse\u00adcu\u00adti\u00adve hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Vinz, a young Jewish man with an aggres\u00adsi\u00adve tem\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adment, seeks reven\u00adge for Abdel\u2019s con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adon. He har\u00adbors a deep hat\u00adred for all poli\u00adce offi\u00adcers and secret\u00adly emu\u00adla\u00adtes Travis Bickle<\/a> from Taxi Driver<\/a><\/em> in front of his bath\u00adroom mir\u00adror. Hubert, an Afro-French boxer and small-time drug dea\u00adler, aspi\u00adres to escape the ban\u00adlieue<\/em> and crea\u00adte a bet\u00adter life for hims\u00adelf. However, his boxing gym\u00adna\u00adsi\u00adum was des\u00adtroy\u00aded in the riots. Sa\u00efd, a young North African Muslim, acts as a media\u00adtor bet\u00adween Vinz and Hubert who con\u00adstant\u00adly argue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The three fri\u00adends lead a direc\u00adtion\u00adless dai\u00adly rou\u00adti\u00adne and fre\u00adquent\u00adly find them\u00adsel\u00adves under poli\u00adce sur\u00adveil\u00adlan\u00adce. At a roof\u00adtop par\u00adty which is bro\u00adken up by the poli\u00adce, Vinz insults a plain\u00adclo\u00adthes poli\u00adce offi\u00adcer. After the trio lea\u00adves, Vinz reve\u00adals that he has dis\u00adco\u00adver\u00aded the .44 Magnum<\/a> revol\u00adver lost during the riot. He plans to use it to kill a poli\u00adce offi\u00adcer if Abdel dies. While Hubert dis\u00adap\u00adpro\u00adves, Vinz secret\u00adly takes the gun with him. They try to visit Abdel in the hos\u00adpi\u00adtal but are stop\u00adped by the poli\u00adce. Sa\u00efd is arres\u00adted after they aggres\u00adsi\u00adve\u00adly refu\u00adse to lea\u00adve, but he is later released with the assis\u00adtance of a poli\u00adce offi\u00adcer who knows his brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A dis\u00adagree\u00adment ari\u00adses bet\u00adween Vinz and Hubert regar\u00adding their per\u00adspec\u00adti\u00adves on poli\u00adcing and vio\u00adlence, lea\u00adding them to part ways tem\u00adpo\u00adr\u00ada\u00adri\u00adly. They board a train to Paris, whe\u00adre their inter\u00adac\u00adtions with both fri\u00adend\u00adly and hosti\u00adle Parisians esca\u00adla\u00adte seve\u00adral situa\u00adtions into dan\u00adge\u00adrous confrontations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a public rest\u00adroom, they encoun\u00adter a Polish sur\u00advi\u00advor of the gulag<\/a> who tells them a sto\u00adry about a man who fro\u00adze to death after he refu\u00adsed to reli\u00ade\u00adve hims\u00adelf in public near the train and then fai\u00adled to re-board in time. The trio is per\u00adple\u00adxed by the mea\u00adning of the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Later, they visit Ast\u00e9rix, a fre\u00adquent coca\u00adi\u00adne user who owes money to Sa\u00efd. This visit leads to a vio\u00adlent con\u00adfron\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon, as Ast\u00e9rix appears to force Vinz to play Russian rou\u00adlette<\/a>, alt\u00adhough the gun is secret\u00adly unloa\u00added. They encoun\u00adter sadi\u00adstic plain\u00adclo\u00adthes poli\u00adce<\/a> offi\u00adcers who arrest Sa\u00efd and Hubert while Vinz mana\u00adges to escape. They hear from a news broad\u00adcast that Abdel has died. They make their way to a roof\u00adtop, whe\u00adre they insult skin\u00adheads<\/a>. However, they encoun\u00adter the same group of skin\u00adheads who mer\u00adci\u00adless\u00adly attack Sa\u00efd and Hubert. Vinz inter\u00adven\u00ades, hol\u00adding one of the skin\u00adheads at gun\u00adpoint. Despite Hubert pushing Vinz to exe\u00adcu\u00adte him, Vinz hesi\u00adta\u00adtes and ulti\u00adm\u00adate\u00adly lets the skin\u00adhead go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the ear\u00adly mor\u00adning, the trio returns home, and Vinz hands the gun over to Hubert.
