Kurdwin Ayub elec\u00adtri\ufb01ed with her wide\u00adly-lau\u00added fea\u00adture debut SONNE<\/span> (2022), depic\u00adting a Muslim girl\u2019s expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adces gro\u00adwing up in Vienna. She \ufb02ips the per\u00adspec\u00adti\u00adve in MOND<\/span>, fol\u00adlo\u00adwing an Austrian woman on a work trip to Jordan. In an inspi\u00adred cas\u00adting choice, cho\u00adreo\u00adgrapher and per\u00adfor\u00admance artist Florentina Holzinger plays Sarah, a reti\u00adred mixed mar\u00adti\u00adal arts \ufb01gh\u00adter hired as a per\u00adso\u00adnal trai\u00adner by a wealt\u00adhy fami\u00adly in Amman. What initi\u00adal\u00adly appears like a dream job\u2014swanky hotel, pri\u00adva\u00adte driver\u2014quickly turns troubling. The teenage sis\u00adters she is sup\u00adpo\u00adsed to train show no inte\u00adrest in the sport. Their pala\u00adti\u00adal home is always deser\u00adted, apart from the clea\u00adning staff and seve\u00adral body\u00adguards, who pat\u00adrol the house as if it were a pri\u00adson. The girls aren\u2019t allo\u00adwed to access the WiFi net\u00adwork and seem shut off from the out\u00adside world. When Sarah enqui\u00adres about the iden\u00adti\u00adty of her employ\u00aders at the hotel bar and men\u00adti\u00adons their fami\u00adly name, the pre\u00advious\u00adly fri\u00adend\u00adly bar\u00adman abrupt\u00adly ends the con\u00adver\u00adsa\u00adti\u00adon. While kee\u00adping the sto\u00adry in a rea\u00adlist regis\u00adter, Ayub bor\u00adrows tro\u00adpes from the thril\u00adler and hor\u00adror gen\u00adres to gene\u00adra\u00adte moun\u00adting sus\u00adpen\u00adse and upend the arche\u00adty\u00adpe of the white saviour, thus for\u00adcing view\u00aders to con\u00adfront their own pre\u00adcon\u00adcep\u00adti\u00adons.
