Light is a fasci\u00adna\u00adting phe\u00adno\u00adme\u00adnon. Without light, the\u00adre would be no cine\u00adma, no film \u2013 and no life. So light is at the ori\u00adgin of ever\u00ady\u00adthing, and yet it remains invi\u00adsi\u00adble to the eye until it hits mat\u00adter. This moment is \u2013 quite lite\u00adral\u00adly \u2013 the start\u00ading point of Thomas Riedelsheimer\u2019s latest work, for the spring\u00adtime spec\u00adta\u00adcle of rain\u00adbow shreds in the cine\u00adma\u00adto\u00adgrapher and docu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adry filmmaker\u2019s flat beca\u00adme the start\u00ading point of a search for the ori\u00adgin of the images we form of this world. For this quest he dived deep into two sphe\u00adres that seem to fol\u00adlow dif\u00adfe\u00adrent laws but always stri\u00adve to fathom the magi\u00adcal: phy\u00adsics and art.
An intellec\u00adtu\u00adal and poe\u00adtic ping pong game evol\u00adves bet\u00adween rese\u00adar\u00adchers from the Max Planck Institute in Erlangen and the \u201cExtreme Light Group\u201d of the University of Glasgow as well as inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal\u00adly renow\u00adned artists such as Ruth Jarman, Joe Gerhardt, Julie Brook, Johannes Brunner and Raimund Ritz. In its cour\u00adse, the various per\u00adspec\u00adti\u00adves on light lead to new insights on all sides that would hard\u00adly have been achie\u00adved wit\u00adhout this metho\u00addi\u00adcal cross-over: about laser power and colour pig\u00adments, about black holes and floa\u00adting sculp\u00adtures. In brief moments, the unin\u00aditia\u00adted may even get some idea of the laws of quan\u00adtum phy\u00adsics, gene\u00adral\u00adly con\u00adside\u00adred impos\u00adsi\u00adble to visualise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
