As ele\u00adgant and decep\u00adtively simp\u00adle as its title, Tatsunari Ota\u2019s Ishi ga aru<\/em>, redu\u00adces nar\u00adra\u00adti\u00adve and plot to ques\u00adti\u00adons of time, move\u00adment, and encoun\u00adter.
The film opens with a name\u00adl\u00adess woman arri\u00adving in a small town, out of see\u00adming nowhe\u00adre. \u201cIs the\u00adre any\u00adthing nice around here?\u201d she asks a local, \u201cSomething fasci\u00adna\u00adting?\u201d Her inquiry met with a near-blank sta\u00adre, she thus drifts, even\u00adtual\u00adly encoun\u00adtering a man skip\u00adping stones by the river. Together they pass the after\u00adnoon enga\u00adged in playful out\u00addoor acti\u00advi\u00adties like balan\u00adcing sticks, stack\u00ading stones and more. Finally, they part \u2013 their time tog\u00ade\u00adther curtail\u00aded by the ine\u00advi\u00adta\u00adble waning day\u00adlight \u2013 with the unex\u00adpec\u00adted emo\u00adtio\u00adnal import of their time tog\u00ade\u00adther left ripp\u00adling like the water over one of their sub\u00admer\u00adged peb\u00adbles.
While struc\u00adtu\u00adred around cen\u00adtral cha\u00adrac\u00adters and nar\u00adra\u00adti\u00adve in natu\u00adre, the film invi\u00adtes a form of spec\u00adta\u00adtor\u00adship more clo\u00adse\u00adly asso\u00adcia\u00adted with dance or per\u00adfor\u00admance art.
