In her second film after The Chambermaid<\/em> in 2018, Lila Avil\u00e9s lea\u00adves behind the cram\u00adped hotel rooms of her debut but con\u00adti\u00adnues to work on the con\u00adnec\u00adtion bet\u00adween rela\u00adti\u00adonships and inte\u00adri\u00ador spaces. This time, the set\u00adting is a lar\u00adge house whe\u00adre, over the cour\u00adse of a long day, fami\u00adly and fri\u00adends meet for a dual ritu\u00adal: it is the bir\u00adth\u00adday of young father and pain\u00adter Tona, but as it will likely be his last, it is also a fare\u00adwell cerem\u00ado\u00adny. There is dua\u00adli\u00adty in the film\u2019s soul, too, with the fren\u00adzy of pre\u00adpa\u00adra\u00adti\u00adons and the spon\u00adta\u00adn\u00adei\u00adty of the cele\u00adbra\u00adti\u00adon con\u00adce\u00adal\u00ading the pro\u00adfound\u00adly archaic and spi\u00adri\u00adtu\u00adal dimen\u00adsi\u00adon of the title. Tona\u2019s wea\u00adk\u00aden\u00aded body is initi\u00adal\u00adly invi\u00adsi\u00adble, pro\u00adtec\u00adted in a room whe\u00adre he tri\u00ades to sum\u00admon up the strength requi\u00adred for the huma\u00adnist cerem\u00ado\u00adny in which he will be show\u00ade\u00adred with all the love and affec\u00adtion nee\u00added to face his final jour\u00adney.
Like the cha\u00adrac\u00adter of the bon\u00adsai-loving patri\u00adarch, Avil\u00e9s takes meti\u00adcu\u00adlous care in sha\u00adping her own minia\u00adtu\u00adre, ben\u00adding tra\u00adjec\u00adto\u00adries and fee\u00adlings, pru\u00adning all frills and excess. A film that pre\u00adpa\u00adres for loss, T\u00f3tem<\/em> amas\u00adses signs and forms of life: ani\u00admals, insects, plants and a para\u00adde of won\u00adderful human beings who are stron\u00adger together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
