There\u2019s pro\u00adba\u00adb\u00adly no other citi\u00adzen of Gelsenkirchen who has ever mas\u00adte\u00adred N\u014d sin\u00adging and play\u00ading the Shakuhachi flu\u00adte as authen\u00adti\u00adcal\u00adly as Uwe Walter. He has lived in the moun\u00adtain vil\u00adla\u00adge of Miyama north of Kyoto for three deca\u00addes and emu\u00adla\u00adtes the local resi\u00addents, whe\u00adther they earn their living on the fields, bree\u00adding catt\u00adle or hun\u00adting. People tend their gar\u00addens, repair fen\u00adces to keep away the maca\u00adques and grow their own rice. Uwe has beco\u00adme per\u00adfect\u00adly Japanese, at one with his environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However well-sui\u00adted his Ruhr area wit makes him as a figu\u00adre of iden\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon, the came\u00adra keeps a respectful distance, more reser\u00adved than Uwe hims\u00adelf. Only at one point does it come tou\u00adch\u00adin\u00adgly clo\u00adse: When he is forced to say good\u00adbye to an essen\u00adti\u00adal part of his past in the inte\u00adrest of the vil\u00adla\u00adge com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty. But the real sub\u00adject of this film is not the German with his grey\u00adish blon\u00adde curls but rather that very com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty, por\u00adtray\u00aded by Rainer Komers in bit\u00adters\u00adweet poly\u00adpho\u00adny. It emer\u00adges in the children\u2019s games, the adults\u2019 pur\u00adsuits and the old people\u2019s tales, in the sum\u00admer down\u00adpours of the rai\u00adny sea\u00adson, the white moon over the noc\u00adturnal vil\u00adla\u00adge and the blood-red lea\u00adves of autumn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
