All the Beauty and the Bloodshed is an epic, emo\u00adtio\u00adnal and inter\u00adcon\u00adnec\u00adted sto\u00adry about inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal\u00adly renow\u00adned artist and acti\u00advist Nan Goldin told through her slide\u00adshows, inti\u00adma\u00adte inter\u00adviews, ground-brea\u00adking pho\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adphy, and rare foo\u00adta\u00adge of her per\u00adso\u00adnal fight to hold the Sackler fami\u00adly accoun\u00adta\u00adble for the opio\u00adid crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directed by Academy Award\u00ae-winning film\u00adma\u00adker Laura Poitras, the film inter\u00adwea\u00adves Goldin\u2019s past and pre\u00adsent, the deep\u00adly per\u00adso\u00adnal and urgen\u00adtly poli\u00adti\u00adcal, from P.A.I.N.\u2019s actions at renow\u00adned art insti\u00adtu\u00adti\u00adons to Goldin\u2019s pho\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adphy of her fri\u00adends and peers through her epic \u201cThe Ballad of Sexual Dependency\u201d and her legen\u00adda\u00adry 1989, NEA-cen\u00adso\u00adred AIDS<\/span> exhi\u00adbi\u00adti\u00adon, \u201cWitness: Against Our Vanishing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sto\u00adry beg\u00adins with P.A.I.N., a group Goldin foun\u00added to shame muse\u00adums into rejec\u00adting Sackler money, destig\u00adma\u00adti\u00adze addic\u00adtion and pro\u00admo\u00adte harm reduc\u00adtion. Inspired by Act Up, they orchestra\u00adted pro\u00adtests to call atten\u00adti\u00adon to the toxic phil\u00adan\u00adthro\u00adpy of the Sackler fami\u00adly, who\u00adse com\u00adpa\u00adny, Purdue Pharma, igni\u00adted the opio\u00adid epi\u00adde\u00admic with its block\u00adbus\u00adter drug, OxyContin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the core of the film are Goldin\u2019s art works \u201cThe Ballad of Sexual Dependency\u201d; \u201cThe Other Side\u201d; \u201cSisters, Saints and Sibyls\u201d; and \u201cMemory Lost.\u201d In the\u00adse works, Goldin cap\u00adtures her fri\u00adend\u00adships with beau\u00adty and raw ten\u00adder\u00adness. These fri\u00adend\u00adships, and the lega\u00adcy of her sis\u00adter Barbara, anchor all of Goldin\u2019s art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
