In a small, peaceful town on Japan\u2019s sou\u00adthern island of Kyushu, 17-year-old Suzume has lived with her aunt ever sin\u00adce she lost her mother as a litt\u00adle girl. One day on her way to school, she meets a mys\u00adte\u00adrious young man named Souta who is in search of a door. She fol\u00adlows him into the moun\u00adta\u00adins and finds a dila\u00adpi\u00adda\u00adted old door stan\u00adding alo\u00adne among ruins. On an impul\u00adse, Suzume turns the hand\u00adle, and at once sets free all the cala\u00admi\u00adties the por\u00adtal was meant to con\u00adtain. All around Japan other doors open, threa\u00adtening a popu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon una\u00adwa\u00adre of the loo\u00adming dan\u00adger. Together, Suzume and Souta set out on a jour\u00adney to clo\u00adse them all again.
