The rough, unk\u00adempt faca\u00addes in Prenzlauer Berg \u2013 as if the skin had been pee\u00adled off the hou\u00adses, says pho\u00adto\u00adgrapher Tina Bara. Having grown up in a pre\u00adfa\u00adbri\u00adca\u00adted buil\u00adding, the young woman was drawn to East Berlin. She quick\u00adly got in con\u00adflict with the sta\u00adte, just like the artists Cornelia Schleime and Gabriele St\u00f6tzer, whom direc\u00adtor Pamela Meyer-Arndt ques\u00adti\u00adons in her film about memo\u00adries, trau\u00admas and crea\u00adti\u00adve genesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St\u00f6tzer, Schleime, Bara \u2013 none of them had it easy in the GDR<\/span>. One of them ended up in pri\u00adson for a peti\u00adti\u00adon, the other was har\u00adried by refu\u00adsed exit per\u00admits, all of them suf\u00adfe\u00adr\u00aded psy\u00adcho\u00adlo\u00adgi\u00adcal\u00adly to the point of pain. Spying, abu\u00adse and oppres\u00adsi\u00adon are reflec\u00adted in the women\u2019s works. Tina Bara\u2019s dark self-por\u00adtraits, taken in a spar\u00adse Berlin apart\u00adment, Cornelia Schleime\u2019s pain\u00adtings denoun\u00adced as \u201cgar\u00adba\u00adge art\u201d, Gabriele St\u00f6tzer\u2019s pho\u00adto series of women in cut-up dres\u00adses and run\u00adny make up \u2013 tes\u00adti\u00admo\u00adnies of despe\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon, but also evi\u00addence of the urge for uncon\u00addi\u00adtio\u00adnal self-expres\u00adsi\u00adon. Meyer-Arndt visits the artists, redis\u00adco\u00advers places from the past with them and obser\u00adves the crea\u00adti\u00adon of new works. The nar\u00adra\u00adti\u00adves shock and touch, and at the same time inspi\u00adre awe for the vehe\u00admen\u00adt\u00adly cho\u00adsen paths in life which more than once skir\u00adted very clo\u00adse to the abyss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
