Some things are very dif\u00adfi\u00adcult for a father to share with his son and the lat\u00adter can only start to under\u00adstand them when he beco\u00admes a father. In February-April this year, Andrea Segre, who has been living in Rome for years, was blo\u00adcked by the lock\u00addown in Venice, the city of his father Ulderico. He was working the\u00adre on two theat\u00adre and cine\u00adma pro\u00adjects on the city\u2019s gre\u00adat blights: tou\u00adrism and high water. While he was film\u00ading the city was fro\u00adzen and emp\u00adtied befo\u00adre his very eyes, res\u00adto\u00adring it to natu\u00adre and its histo\u00adry, and in some ways to him as well. He coll\u00adec\u00adted visu\u00adal notes and spent that peri\u00adod in his fami\u00adly home whe\u00adre he del\u00adved into the past. Personal archi\u00adves in Super8 by the director\u2019s father and the real prot\u00adago\u00adnist of the film alter\u00adna\u00adte with mee\u00adtings with Venetian inha\u00adbi\u00adtants, who talk about the rela\u00adti\u00adonship bet\u00adween the city and water whilst expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adcing the unex\u00adpec\u00adted arri\u00adval of the gre\u00adat void that has inva\u00added Venice and a lar\u00adge part of the world. The who\u00adle thing is kept tog\u00ade\u00adther by the director\u2019s off screen voice, Teho Teardo\u2019s music and an atmo\u00adsphe\u00adre of expec\u00adtancy and ama\u00adze\u00adment that per\u00adva\u00addes the enti\u00adre visu\u00adal and exis\u00adten\u00adti\u00adal mate\u00adri\u00adal of this stran\u00adge journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
