The clo\u00adsing titles say The Two Sights<\/em> was \u201ccoll\u00adec\u00adted\u201d on various islands of the Outer Hebrides from 2017\u201319, but what does the film gather? There are the images, cap\u00adtu\u00adred on 16mm, which sur\u00advey all this ravis\u00adhing land\u00adscape con\u00adta\u00adins, taking in its rocky cliffs, bea\u00adches and plains, ali\u00adght\u00ading on its flo\u00adra and fau\u00adna and the hou\u00adses and ships sprink\u00adled over it, picking out curr\u00adents, reflec\u00adtions and shifts in light. Then the\u00adre are the sounds, recor\u00added with the mic visi\u00adble in the first shots, kee\u00adning birds, the roaring wind, the cras\u00adhing, gurg\u00adling, trick\u00adling of the water. In voice\u00adover, a who\u00adle antho\u00adlo\u00adgy of tales can be heard, nar\u00adra\u00adted in both English and Gaelic, sto\u00adries of dog ske\u00adle\u00adtons, drow\u00adned vil\u00adla\u00adges, and fami\u00adly mem\u00adbers pas\u00adsing away, alt\u00adhough songs, silence and the ship\u00adping fore\u00adcast are just as at home the\u00adre. But like any gre\u00adat coll\u00adec\u00adtion, it\u2019s not about the indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal ele\u00adments, but how they over\u00adlap, about how the crow han\u00adging on bar\u00adbed wire con\u00adju\u00adres up ano\u00adther sto\u00adry never told, about how the ripp\u00adles seem to rever\u00adbe\u00adra\u00adte along with the woman\u2019s har\u00admo\u00adnies, about how each anec\u00addo\u00adte floats over the rus\u00adhing air. Sight by eye, sight by ear, two sights that ripp\u00adle and flow together.<\/p>\n
