In his 2011 essay \u201cThe Making of the Indebted Man\u201d, phi\u00adlo\u00adso\u00adpher Maurizio Lazzarato wri\u00adtes: \u201cDebt is not an impe\u00addi\u00adment to growth. Indeed, it repres\u00adents the eco\u00adno\u00admic and sub\u00adjec\u00adti\u00adve engi\u00adne of the modern-day eco\u00adno\u00admy. Debt crea\u00adti\u00adon, that is, the crea\u00adti\u00adon and deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of the power rela\u00adti\u00adon bet\u00adween cre\u00addi\u00adtors and deb\u00adtors, has been con\u00adcei\u00adved and pro\u00adgrammed as the stra\u00adte\u00adgic heart of neo\u00adli\u00adbe\u00adral poli\u00adtics.\u201d Carmen Losmann\u2019s Oeconomia<\/em> sets off on a jour\u00adney into this stra\u00adte\u00adgic heart. The fact that many repre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adti\u00adves of the ban\u00adking and finan\u00adce sec\u00adtor would pre\u00adfer not to speak on came\u00adra \u2013 and tho\u00adse who do are often at a loss for words \u2013 makes this an unde\u00adni\u00adably ambi\u00adtious under\u00adta\u00adking. No mat\u00adter how trans\u00adpar\u00adent\u00adly the archi\u00adtec\u00adtures of banks and finan\u00adcial insti\u00adtu\u00adti\u00adons pre\u00adsent them\u00adsel\u00adves, the direc\u00adtor repea\u00adted\u00adly finds hers\u00adelf in front of clo\u00adsed doors while con\u00adduc\u00adting her rese\u00adarch. But she makes a vir\u00adtue of neces\u00adsi\u00adty by using pho\u00adne call tran\u00adscripts and com\u00adpu\u00adter-gene\u00adra\u00adted images to bring abs\u00adtract, dif\u00adfi\u00adcult-to-grasp sub\u00adject mat\u00adter to life.<\/p>\n
