Forty years ago, the Shah, and the Iranian mon\u00adar\u00adchy with him, was over\u00adthrown. After gai\u00adning power, Ayatollah Khomeini, the new head of sta\u00adte and reli\u00adgious lea\u00adder, had tens of thou\u00adsands of poli\u00adti\u00adcal oppon\u00adents arres\u00adted and tor\u00adtu\u00adred, inclu\u00adding the filmmaker\u2019s par\u00adents. The fami\u00adly, that was later able to flee to Germany, has never dis\u00adcus\u00adsed this peri\u00adod of their lives in detail. After years of hesi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon, Maryam Zaree final\u00adly deci\u00addes to address the deca\u00addes of silence: how did their trau\u00adma as a result of per\u00adse\u00adcu\u00adti\u00adon and vio\u00adlence inscri\u00adbe its\u00adelf in the bodies and souls of the sur\u00advi\u00advors and their child\u00adren? How do sur\u00advi\u00advors cope on a per\u00adso\u00adnal level with the fact that the per\u00adpe\u00adtra\u00adtors still enjoy posi\u00adti\u00adons of power with impu\u00adni\u00adty?
