Christmas Island, an iso\u00adla\u00adted part of the world, loca\u00adted bet\u00adween Indonesia and Australia, is one of the of-ter\u00adri\u00adto\u00adry sites Australia uses to detain peo\u00adp\u00adle see\u00adking refu\u00adge or asyl\u00adum (or a bet\u00adter life) on its ter\u00adri\u00adto\u00adry pro\u00adper. The tro\u00adpi\u00adcal island is also the site of ano\u00adther kind of migra\u00adti\u00adon: Usually at the begin\u00adning of the wet sea\u00adson thou\u00adsands of red crabs make their way from the forest to the sea shore, a pas\u00adsa\u00adge that finds pro\u00adtec\u00adtion from the peo\u00adp\u00adle on Christmas Island. In one sce\u00adne in Gabrielle Brady\u2019s docu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adry we see her prot\u00adago\u00adnist, the the\u00adra\u00adpist Poh Lin Lee, careful\u00adly clea\u00adring the road in order to avo\u00adid crab road\u00adkill. Her main task on the island (and her voca\u00adti\u00adon, we may sur\u00admi\u00adse) is to help some of the detai\u00adnees on the island, who suf\u00adfer from the uncer\u00adtain\u00adty of their sta\u00adtus, and who often react by har\u00adming them\u00adsel\u00adves. Poh Lin Lee offers an ori\u00adgi\u00adnal the\u00adra\u00adpy using a sand\u00adbox as a device to address trau\u00adma. ISLAND<\/span> OF<\/span> THE<\/span> HUNGRY<\/span> GHOSTS<\/span> is as much a subt\u00adly radi\u00adcal poli\u00adti\u00adcal docu\u00admen\u00adta\u00adry as it is a deep\u00adly moving medi\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon on extre\u00adme con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons in a place haun\u00adted by ghosts of all kind \u2013 the big\u00adgest ghost being the unjust world order against which the\u00adre is no easy offe\u00adring.
