After having dis\u00adap\u00adpeared for a week, Astrid\u2019s 13-year-old son Phillip returns home one day wit\u00adhout say\u00ading a word. Both his mother and tea\u00adchers suspect that his dis\u00adap\u00adpearance may be rela\u00adted to the loss of his father. Only gra\u00addu\u00adal\u00adly does ever\u00ady\u00adday life get back on track. Astrid now finds hers\u00adelf con\u00adfron\u00adted with ques\u00adti\u00adons that pro\u00advi\u00adde a who\u00adle new per\u00adspec\u00adti\u00adve on her midd\u00adle-class exis\u00adtence and her care\u00ader in Berlin\u2019s cul\u00adtu\u00adral sec\u00adtor. Her ide\u00adas about art also begin to chan\u00adge. At home, it beco\u00admes more and more dif\u00adfi\u00adcult for this sin\u00adgle mother to accept that her son is lea\u00adding his own life. And then Phillip is admit\u00adted to hos\u00adpi\u00adtal with blood poi\u00adso\u00adning. Astrid is a ner\u00advous wreck, wiped out by worry, guilt and her fee\u00adlings of fail\u00adure. But Phillip and his litt\u00adle sis\u00adter do not turn away from her. The fami\u00adly may be dis\u00adin\u00adte\u00adgra\u00adting, but only to form its\u00adelf anew.
\nThe came\u00adra in this film remains at a dis\u00adcrete distance, pro\u00advi\u00adding mother and child\u00adren with the space and time they need to redis\u00adco\u00adver and reapp\u00adrai\u00adse their fee\u00adlings.
