A cir\u00adcus wagon and a ship\u00adping con\u00adtai\u00adner ser\u00adve as stone\u00adma\u00adson Michael Spengler\u2019s work\u00adshop. It is here that he recei\u00adves peo\u00adp\u00adle in mour\u00adning. Together they design head\u00adsto\u00adnes that tell of the deceased.<\/p>\n

Mr. and Mrs. Neustadt have lost their two-year-old son. Through their dia\u00adlo\u00adgue with Michael they find the words to express their emo\u00adti\u00adons, words that beco\u00adme form and substance\u2014their child\u2019s breath is to be repre\u00adsen\u00adted in a fra\u00adgi\u00adle lime\u00ads\u00adtone. Hardburg Stolle is a woman of few words, through Michael\u2019s gui\u00addance she daunt\u00adless\u00adly swings the ham\u00admer that splits a bould\u00ader and feels a sen\u00adse of strength that had been long buried. The Jacob fami\u00adly sear\u00adches for the essence of their grandfather\u2019s life: lover of natu\u00adre, bon vivant, patri\u00adarch. What should an object that encap\u00adsu\u00adla\u00adtes him look like? Michael approa\u00adches the mate\u00adri\u00adal and the peo\u00adp\u00adle with gre\u00adat sen\u00adsi\u00adti\u00advi\u00adty and accom\u00adpa\u00adnies each fami\u00adly on a pro\u00adcess that often takes months, one decis\u00adi\u00adon at a time.<\/p>\n

The film tells the sto\u00adry of this dif\u00adfi\u00adcult and inti\u00adma\u00adte pro\u00adcess and shows how working on the stone makes death con\u00adcre\u00adte in the truest sen\u00adse of the word.
