Jacek loves hea\u00advy metal and his dog. He con\u00adverts the coun\u00adtry lanes out\u00adside his door into a racing track and bombs down them in his litt\u00adle car. When he and his girl\u00adfri\u00adend Dagmara take to the dance\u00adf\u00adlo\u00ador, ever\u00adyo\u00adne runs for cover. He enjoys his exis\u00adtance as a cool mis\u00adfit in an other\u00adwi\u00adse stuffy envi\u00adron\u00adment, and keeps his mus\u00adcles toned working on a buil\u00adding site clo\u00adse to the Polish-German bor\u00adder whe\u00adre the world\u2019s lar\u00adgest sta\u00adtue of Jesus is being con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adted. But then his life is thrown bad\u00adly off cour\u00adse by a ter\u00adri\u00adble acci\u00addent at work that com\u00adple\u00adte\u00adly dis\u00adfi\u00adgu\u00adres him. Eagerly fol\u00adlo\u00adwed by the Polish media, Jacek beco\u00admes the first per\u00adson in the coun\u00adtry to recei\u00adve a face trans\u00adplant. He may be cele\u00adbra\u00adted as a natio\u00adnal hero and mar\u00adtyr, but he no lon\u00adger reco\u00adg\u00adni\u00ads\u00ades hims\u00adelf in the mir\u00adror. Meanwhile, the sta\u00adtue of Jesus grows tal\u00adler and tal\u00adler. Whilst events around Jacek come thick and fast, the film never loses sight of the big\u00adger pic\u00adtu\u00adre and ins\u00adtead brings things even more into focus. Twarz<\/em> uses the for\u00admat of an acer\u00adbic far\u00adce to con\u00adsider con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adons in modern-day Poland and explo\u00adre life in the pro\u00advin\u00adces, reve\u00adal\u00ading a coun\u00adtry that is busy set\u00adting its faith in stone.
